What's new at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center?
The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center was completed in 1979, has been owned and maintained by the YMCA of Metropolitian Milwaukee, and is soon to be owned and operated by a new non-profit organization - The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, Ltd.. From the last quarter of 2007 until April of 2008 the WSAC, Ltd. has raised a little over $2,000,000.

The Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center was drained on Saturday, August 9 and repairs have begun. Downstairs, in the basement, work is being started on disconnecting the old pumps,and the wall that makes the door frame has been demoed to make room for out-going filters and incoming new Neptune-Benson Defender filters and the UV system. On Wednesday, tile and grout in the tank will be worked on and then later work on the stainless gutters will begin. Target finish is the second week of September. After the pool is acid washed and refilled, the old bulkheads will be removed, the new bulkheads and blocks will come in and the fabrcated gutter covers and end caps will be replaced.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee sold the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center to a non-profit corporation, Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, Ltd. The sale was finalized on July 23, 2008. This sale closing insures the facility for future generations of competitive swimmers and divers. |
