| Maui Channel Swim |
Both Geoff Mykleby and Kimberly Von During competed in the Maui Channel Swim earlier this September. This race is the only Masters inter-island relay race in the world, as each 6 person team must swim between the Islands of Lanai and Maui. A boat will follow each team, and each swimmer will swim for a half hour at a time until everyone has gone. Then each swimmer races in 10 minute intervals until they have crossed the finish line....COOL!! Congratulations you two!! For complete for both races results, visit http://www.
Geoff's team of the "Dam old Dudes" placed 3rd in their Senior Makule division and 18th Overall for the race. Here is his description of the race that I just felt like I had to include:
Maui went well considering……it was the worst conditions in over 15 years.. Waves, wind, strange and magical currents made for a really rough go. My team placed third in our age group..18th out of 65 teams. Not bad for a relay of old man averaging over 50 years of age. Kimberly Von During's team, "Swim Across America" placed 4th in their Open division and 30th Overall. AND THEN THE NEXT DAY, Kimberly placed first in her Division for the Maui Aumakua 2.4 Mile swim in Maneka Bay, South Maui. She was also 7th overall for all of the women that competed. |
