Chris and Alex Meyers at OTC
Christopher and Alexandra Meyers are completing a week of training with other YMCA athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.  Athletes at the camp were selected based on performances at the Spring National YMCA Swimming Championships.  Historically, Schroeder has sent Meghan Purvis, Emily Stapleton, Steve Cebertowicz, and Kevin Baseheart to the camp.  Chris writes, "Really fun camp. So much more yardage than I'm used to. The altitude is definitely a factor but it was weird getting out of your comfort zone. Chase's im sets definitely prepared me for this.  Relays tomorrow for a while at practice then going up pikes peak".

Youths finish at front of line

By CURT KEMP Journal Sports Writer
POSTED: August 1, 2010

NEGAUNEE - With the proceeds of Saturday's Seventh Annual Swim Teal Lake Benefit for Diabetes going to help fund programs such as Camp UPeninsulin, a program for Upper Peninsula youths with diabetes, it was probably appropriate that the youths were finishing the 2.25-mile trek across the lake ahead of the rest of the competitors.

Marquette's Brad Cowan, an All-U.P. swimmer last season at Marquette Senior High School, finished first overall for the men, while former teammates Wes Vear and Kelly McCommons finished fifth and sixth respectively.

2010 Central Zone Section 1 Champs

SSTY finished 10th overall, 21st women and 6th on the men's side to complete another successful meet.  complete results.  The meet was highlighted by many great efforts that included a win in both the 100 and 200 M flys by Kevin Baseheart who is coming into top form going into the USA National Championships.  While many swimmers achieved great swims, Schroeder was just shy of moving four athletes on to the USA Junior Champs.  Combined, Chris Meyers, Chuckie Prestigiacomo, Casey Murphy and Abigail Raatz missed the junior standard by less than .05 sec collectively!  Great swims and nothing to feel bad about at all!  Alex Meyers shined brightly as she did make the Junior meet in the 100 free and established several new team records in the process.

Schroeder is Getting Ready for Sectionals

After an uneventful travel day, the majority of the team is here and is resting after a brief swim and dinner.  The Vuvuzelas can be heard occasionally trumpeting in the hallways but otherwise things are quiet.

Great Results for Schroeder's Big Weekend

Schroeder enjoyed strong performances at home and away this past weekend.

At the Bird Bath in Appleton, WI great swimming until the meet was stormed out.  On today's Appleton Post-Crescent Sports Section front page is Milo Miller.  bilde

At home Schroeder enjoyed very good results from athletes who were fully prepared for the meet and those who were unrested for the meet.  Alex Meyers set new team records in the 100 and 200 M Free - the second eclipsed a Shari Countryman record from 1984!

On the west coast, Adam, Kevin Baseheart and Mitchell all raced at the Los Angeles Grand Prix.  All three earned swims in the finals.  View video on swimnetwork of Kevin's B final of the 100 Fly, Mitchell C final of the 100 Back and Adam in the A final of the 100 back.

Pro Triathlete Gwen Jorgensen finished 3rd at the Pan American Cup in San Francisco.
